Description

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The Carolina Cold Fury hockey series continues as the team’s most notorious party animal gets blindsided by the one that got away.

Off the ice, elite defenseman Hawke Therrien enjoys his fair share of booze and good times. And why shouldn’t he? He’s worked his way up from the minor leagues and made himself a star. The only thing Hawke misses from that life is the pierced, tattooed free spirit who broke his heart without so much as an explanation. She’s almost unrecognizable when she walks back into his life seven years later—except for the look in her eyes that feels like a punch to the gut.

Vale Campbell isn’t the same girl she was at twenty. As crazy as she was about Hawke, her reckless behavior and out-of-control drinking were starting to scare her. She had to clean up her act, and that would never happen with Hawke around. Cutting him loose was the hardest thing Vale ever had to do—until now. Because she’s still crazy about Hawke. And if he could ever learn to forgive her, they just might have a future together.

Sawyer Bennett has done it again. Interesting characters, heart tugging storyline. I would have liked to see more of the team camaraderie and hockey action we saw in the other books but this is a solid addition to the series. Looking forward to the next in the series.

It was just ok....definitely not one of my favorite Cold Fury book in the series. I'm still a huge fan of Sawyer Bennetts' novels, and hoping Max's story would be better.

Hawke and Vale were teenagers in love but were they a match made in heaven or a couple from hell? Together they are explosive! Hot tempers and hotter sex but then Vale drops him like a bad habit. After years apart they both have done the unthinkable, they grow up. Will their romance rekindle with the same sparks, Hawke hopes so. I loved this story with all its ups and downs. It had love, it had heartbreak and it had smoking hot sex! The characters are fun and even though it is part of a series it can be read as a standalone. You don’t have to know hockey to enjoy this story either.

It's Cold Fury Hockey season again. Author Sawyer Bennett bring us new teammate, Hawke Therrien, defensive lineman to the team. However, the one thing Hawke never planned on seeing in the new lineup was Vale Campbell, athletic trainer. I'm a sucker for second chance love stories. The one that got away and now you have a chance to redeem the errors of your youth and do it right. However, there is a lot of inability to trust and anger in the way of our Hero that makes it difficult to get to his HEA. I really fell in love with the heroine, Vale. She's picked herself up, moved on, taken on a difficult task and yet, is open to the possibility to love deeply again. Hawke and Vale's story isn't without it's ups and downs. Each one wants to let go of the past, yet struggles a lot. I found it intriguing that our Hero had the most trouble of 'let it go.' Usually authors give that to the female lead character. However, watching a man struggle with hurts of the past made the story different and captivating. I am a huge fan of Sawyer Bennett's. Her writing is always flawless and storytelling is riveting. This new installment to the Cold Fury series does not disappoint. If you are a fan, this is definitely one to add to your bookshelf. If you have not had the opportunity to read any of her writings, she weaves the background to not let a new reader floundering. However, do yourself a favor and read the other books in the series- it's hockey hunk gold. 5 out of 5 stars

I am not familiar with any of the previous Cold Fury books by Sawyer Bennett. Which didn’t prove to be a handicap while reading this book. It is a good stand-alone book on its own. This is a second chance love story, and if you want to get right down to brass tacks, it’s really a third chance love story. Vale and Hawke were deeply in love, wild, and reckless in their youth. Hawke is getting ready to leave for his big hockey break, and Vale suddenly cuts him out of her life with no warning or reasons. Seven years later, forced to move in with her father to care for him during a life threatening illness, she takes a job with the Cold Fury, and is forced to come face to face with Hawke. Unresolved feelings surface, and they attempt to navigate the waters of the second chance at love they now have. They end up breaking up AGAIN… and yes, they do have a third chance at love. Almost immediately I had guessed the big dark secret that Vale had been hiding, which was the reason she cut him out of her life. The problem with the story is she is harboring anger at him for what happened, and he had no clue of the part he had played. Unfair?? Yes… but sadly, sometimes that’s just how people’s emotions and faulty thinking make a big mess of things. However, I thought it was a little drawn out to keep punishing Hawke for things he didn’t know about. By the time she reveals the secret to him, you’re thinking to yourself…. Geez, about time. Half way through the book I was wondering when the plot would get juicy and kick in. There were moments where I felt intense sympathy for the characters, and other moments where I was just completely frustrated by the fact they were both completely stubborn and wrapped in their own agendas. But the sign of a good author is the ability to make you feel things as you’re reading. All in all, it was a decent story. I’m not a huge sports person, but I was able to follow the hockey jargon without feeling completely lost. I think it would be worth my time to go back and read books 1-4 just so I have them all under my belt. I did like the happy ending, and the surprise news at the end. It was a sweet romantic way to end the book. I would recommend this to others to read.

This is the 5th book in Sawyer Bennett's Cold Fury Hockey series, and is defenseman Hawke Therrien's story about second chances at love. Seven years ago, Hawke's life was perfect. He was drafted into the NHL by the Pittsburgh Titans, and he was madly in love with his girlfriend, Vale Campbell. The night before he left for the NHL, Hawke, Vale and his friends had a big party. Vale was upset and left unbeknownst to Hawke. The next morning Hawke was frantically trying to find Vale since he had to leave to catch his plane. Once he finally does find her, she breaks things off with him breaking his heart. Hawke doesn't understands why and keeps trying to reach out to her and finally gives up after she refuses to talk to him. Hawke instead decides to concentrate on his hockey career and lives the life of a playboy. Hawke has been traded to the Cold Fury. The first day of the season he shows up and who is now working there? Vale! It is obvious that there are still feelings between these two but they both are carrying leftover baggage from seven years ago. As they start working and spending more time together, they finally start talking about seven years ago. Hawke finally understands why Vale did what she did, but there are still underlying trust issues between them. The journey Hawke and Vale went on over the past seven years was tough. If this couple would have just talked to each other in the beginning, a lot of their issues would have been resolved quickly. It was a sweet story of second chances ending with a happy ending. The added sub-story of Vale's dad was interesting with a lot of facts that I never knew of. Overall this was a fun, sexy read of another Cold Fury player, and I look forward to Max's story next.
  • Carolina Cold Fury!

Hawke A Cold Fury Hockey Novel Sawyer Bennett Another exciting novel in the Carolina Cold Fury Hockey series. As always, lots of action, romance and some very hot scenes! Hawke Therrien has recently joined the Cold Fury, but feels like it's home thanks to his friendship with most of the other players he has connected with in his career. He wants a championship ring, Hawke thinks this is where he'll get it. It's a great team, the owners are very supportive, the coaches great, he only has one issue. Their new asst. athletic trainer, Vale Cambell. They have a volatile history, sexually and personally and Hawke at twenty believed they would be together forever. That is until the day Vale let him know it was over. She wouldn't answer his calls or messages, his heart was shattered, so he "lived ate and breathed professional hockey" and accepted the life of hard drinking, travel and random women. Hawke thought his life was perfect, until he saw Vale again. Vale and Hawke in the four years they dated were inseparable. Both too young, living life on the edge and partying. Vale had a variety of piercings, a tattoo and no desire to do anything else but love Hawke. Too much partying, drugs alcohol and sex. He was leaving to play pro hockey, and a very frightening incident pushed her to do what she thought was the right thing. Break it off, as well as her heart. Vale was living in Raleigh N.C. now, close to Duke University. He father has a reoccurrence of brain cancer and is participating in a clinical trial that is his last chance. Vale was working two jobs, morning to evening and was exhausted. Seeing Hawke thrilled her and frightened her......could they be friends, or more? Hawke and Vale voice their thoughts and feelings in alternate chapters, so you feel a part of the story. Second chance romance's are so fun to read, but I do admit I would have liked to shake Hawke and Vale a number of times! If they would only just talk, not hide behind their broken hearts. If you like hockey and romance I highly recommend this book and the series. It can be read as a stand alone, but the previous books are excellent. I received this ARC from the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review. Pat Fordyce
