Description

When her boyfriend inherits an ancient vineyard in France, Maggie Newberry quits her job in Atlanta to accompany him for a year abroad. They settle in the tiny village of St-Buvard, but murder has gone long before them and follows close behind.
Murder a la Carte brings Atlanta copywriter and southern belle Maggie Newberry to the brink of two connected murders—both committed in her home—and both poised to threaten everything she holds dear. When Maggie agrees to move to France with her boyfriend—a French ex-confidence man who has just inherited a house and vineyard—she doesn’t expect her year of French market shopping and weekend trips to Paris to be interrupted by a vicious murder in her living room. Or that the bloody violence that occurred on their front doorstep sixty years earlier after the end of the Second World War might be connected. If you want to save the price of a ticket to the south of France this year, pick up Murder a la Carte instead. It will give you a delicious escape into the sights, sounds, tastes and smells of Provence—all tucked nicely within the framework of a tightly woven mystery that will keep you guessing until the very last page.

Love this series! The characters, setting, story with interspersed phrases in French, are very enjoyable, especially for those who love to travel in France, or live vicariously.

The first book was kinda ok, so I took a chance and bought this one. Two stars may be generous. Maggie continues to whine and feel sorry for herself. I just finished the teaser for book three. Will not be buying any more of this series. What happened to the mystery novel she was going to write at the end of book one? It morphed into a cookbook?? Too many good books to waste time on ones like these are.

Love the Maggie Newberry stories. I get to see a crime or mystery solved, learn a bit of French, find out about some of the French foods...it's all quite interesting! The characters are well developed and the plots are tightly woven so you don't guess who did the dirty deeds right away. Any of the Maggie books are perfect for those times you've got a few hours to read, but be warned...whenever you have to stop, you'll be wanting to get right back to the story to find out what happens next! My one issue with the books are the typos, missing words and some continuity problems. In this book, Maggie's eyes are "sea-blue", yet in the next book, her eyes are brown. Laurent grows from six foot four to over six foot five from book to book. In this book she's given a poodle puppy. By the next book, the pup is now a poodle-terrier. These things don't detract too much from the stories, but need to be tightened up to keep the flow of the read and the polish on the work. In spite of these little issues, I'm buying the entire series!
