Description

From New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting, Shacking Up is a hilarious, swoon-worthy novel about sex and the city—and everything in-between.

Ruby Scott is months behind on rent and can’t seem to land a steady job. She has one chance to turn things around with a big audition. But instead of getting her big break, she gets sick as a dog and completely bombs it in the most humiliating fashion. All thanks to a mysterious, gorgeous guy who kissed—and then coughed on—her at a party the night before.

Luckily, her best friend might have found the perfect opportunity; a job staying at the lavish penthouse apartment of hotel magnate Bancroft Mills while he’s out of town, taking care of his exotic pets. But when the newly-evicted Ruby arrives to meet her new employer, it turns out Bane is the same guy who got her sick.

Seeing his role in Ruby’s dilemma, Bane offers her a permanent job as his live-in pet sitter until she can get back on her feet. Filled with hilariously awkward encounters and enough sexual tension to heat a New York City block, Shacking Up, from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Helena Hunting, is sure to keep you laughing and swooning all night long.

In Shacking Up, Ruby meets Bancroft with a kiss. This kiss turned into the flu which caused her to vomit during auditions. With no job, no money, and no apartment, Ruby gets evicted from apartment. Fortunately, Bancroft needed a pet sitter offering Ruby his condo for the next five weeks to make up for giving her the flu. This was a great introduction, but that’s where the greatness ends. From this point on it became a game of naughty thoughts and unnecessary commentary. The execution was repetitive and wordy. These characters aren’t very interesting. The sexual banter was okay in the beginning but the shock value and fun wore off. The premise was strong but the delivery fell flat. I skimmed through most of the book. This wasn’t a good fit for me: Ruby’s issues with her father, Bancroft’s issues with his father, The pets, and Amie and her fiancé. The only fun part was Ruby auditioning.

I Love Helena Hunting and have been a fan since the Clipped Wings and Pucked series! Shacking up was a whole new RomCom that she adds to her collection. I was completely enamored with Shacking Up and the characters that bring the story to life. The laughs, the crazy flirting, the denial, and then of course the explosive sexy scenes. Helena Hunt brings it all with this book and I love it more for that. Ruby was the chick I loved to hear talk. Her sassiness and comebacks were on point. Bancoft, with his sexy self, shows a little bit of vulnerability. He is pleased when Ruby shows her interest and she helps him see himself as a person. I love these two together! The banter and playfulness had me giddy. I am can not wait to see what Helena has next for us!

3 stars becuase Bane was great. Well it started out pretty good. Ruby is a spoiled rich girl who's upset with her father because he left her mother. Apparently having young wives is good for her fathers image being head of a pharmaceuticals company that invented the penis hardening pill. Funny. Ruby wants to be in theatre, actor. Father wants her to work in his multimillion dollar company. She's rebelling. She wants to make it on her own. Now keep in mind that her father has paid her rent for five years, while she was in college and after graduation. Also paid for college. Normal people striving for independence do not have their parents paying their rent for five years. A month would be asking too much in most cases. Her best friend, Amie, which I think is the real story, is getting married. Ruby meets, by accident, Bane. Due to a ridiculous amount of writing by the author, they end up in a relationship. Bane I love. He's funny. Ruby is even funny. The story is just too long. Covered with ridiculousness and making it incredibly boring. It took me three days to finish this story. Three days because I kept dosing. I was going to quit, but chose to continue because I wanted to see if there would be insight into why Amie was marrying Armstrong. He was a real princess. Unfortunately, we never understand why she's marrying him. She doesn't really seem to love him. I think that story was more interesting than a spoiled girl trying to teach daddy a lesson. If this is a series, I will not be following. 24 chapters was too long. However, I think even if it were cut in half, it would still be boring. Ruby was spoiled and ashamed of the choices she made to get to where she ends up. Which was not bad, by the way. Working/ dancing at a club, legally, to earn a living was shameful to her because of where she came from. High Society. She used her own judgment of herself to justify lying to everyone about where she was working. Hypocritical considering she constantly judged the rich for who they were. Who she was too. Pages and pages of her tantrums. I will say I'm in the minority. Read for yourself.

This book was fun from the start. It just builds and builds keeping you laughing and enjoying the story all the way. The main characters don't disappoint. They are intelligent and fun. Ruby is sweet, lovable, and annoying all at the same time. Bane is such the adorable and sexy guy. A romantic story well worth reading.

Helena Hunting is one of my favorite authors and in her newest book, SHACKING UP we get her signature carefree writing style. It is a witty, fun contemporary romance with believable characters and lots of banter. I loved this enthralling book from start to finish. Bancroft and Ruby are thrown together when Ruby takes a job watching Bancroft’s exotic pets while he is out of town on business. From the moment they meet, sparks fly and there is tons of chemistry between these two warm hearted, fun characters. Bancroft and Ruby both come from wealthy families and they are often frustrated with all expectations that come with being born into a rich family. Ruby is a struggling actress. She can sing, dance and act, but she hasn't been able to find a job and she is finding it impossible to pay her bills. She is too proud to ask her father for money because he does not support her acting career and thinks Ruby should be working in the family business. Ruby is refreshing and her inner dialogue is hilarious. Bancroft is a former professional rugby player and is now working for his family's prestigious hotel chain. He is sexy and a nice, down to earth guy, who is rough on outside but sweet inside. He is a big guy with battle scars from years of playing rugby. Once he meets Ruby, she is all he wants and he has no interest in any one else. I fell in love with both of these characters. Even though Ruby and Bancroft were brought up rich and entitled, they aren't stuffy or elitist. They are practical and can't stand rich, pompous people. Neither of them follow the rules. Ruby is sarcastic, irreverent and funny. I loved everything about this breezy, light, funny story. There is a slow build up with lots of sexy banter and sarcastic remarks. There are also fun secondary characters and I hope to see more of them in future books. Ruby’s best friend is a wonderful addition to the story and I am hoping she will get her own story in the future. This is told from both POV’s so we know what Bancroft and Ruby are thinking and feeling. I was given an advanced copy of this book to write an honest review for Netgalley and Cocktails and Books.

Shacking Up is a romantic comedy starring two leads who were born into upper crust families but do things a little differently than many surrounding them. They aren't has worried about expectations of what's proper. Ruby is trying to become a broadway star. She's having trouble getting a role. When her father cuts her off, she ends up live-in pet setting for Bancroft. This story is full of dirty inner monologue and exotic animals and has plenty of sexual tension and humorous situations. If you're a fan of lighthearted romance, you should check it out.

Helena's done it again. Loved this book so much! Ruby and her personality were hilarious. She quickly became my second favorite female character. I haven't laughed this much since Violet from Pucked (who happens to actually be my favorite female character). And Bane, sizzling hotness that he is, has become one of my top five of my book boyfriends. Oh umm, I mean my favorite male characters.. ahem, anyway. The story flowed so well and was so well written that I didn't want to put it down at all! One of my favorite books this year. Actually no, one of my favorite books ever. I can't wait to see what happens next. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

The wait is finally over! I was so looking forward to this new stand-alone by Helena. I'm absolutely in love with the Pucked & Clipped Wings series, I was really excited to read something totally new & different from what we've gotten before! 😊 I fell in love with Bane & Ruby (like most of the characters she write for us) 😍😂 I love the sweetness of Bane & the firecracker inside Ruby. It makes such a great combination. The small bickering also made me laugh out loud at times. Whatever she gives us I always seem to be blown away. I can't wait to read what else she has in store for us ❤️❤️thanks Helena 💕😍
