    I loved this romantic tale set in 1819 London & created by the ever-so -talented Erica Ridley❣️ Julian, the Duke of Lambly, is a very wealthy, white, handsome & intelligent man who owns & runs a rather risqué Masquerade Ball at his home ‼️. His reputation is quite tarnished, but he really doesn’t care‼️ On the other side of London, Miss Unity Thorne, a beautiful woman of African descent, works at the National Theatre as a clever make-up artist - temporarily until she can save her wages to the day she owns her own masquerade ball ! She wants to observe the most successful & popular ball in London (with her own venture in mind) & has a plan to offer her help to the Duke to share ideas to improve his business‼️ When Julian & Unity meet sparks sizzle & attraction grows with every encounter!     Great story, love the characters. The Duke of Lambley, Julian is a control freak, a perfectionist, everything must always be his way. He started to host Masquerade, first monthly, than weekly. The Ton was shocked and yet dying to be included in the wild parties. Unity Thorne is a fighter, nothing was ever handed to her. Orphan at 7 years old and living as a ward to her cousin who made her life miserable. She finds her place years later helping her cousin manage his gentleman’s club. Once it was successful and turning a profit her cousin kicks her to the curb at the age of 18. That didn’t bring Unity down, she went to his competition’s gaming hall and turn that place around. Causing her ungrateful cousin to lose his customers. She is tire of turning profit for others and she now has a dream to own her own place. A Masquerade hall, but she needs to save her money and do research on it. The best in the business is Duke of Lambley. The question is how will Unity manage to get a invite? She is a nobody in the eyes of the Ton, plus being also half African even though she is light skin is another challenge for her. Unity is a strong female character that doesn’t let life bring her down, she is determined to meet the goals she set for herself. Julian is hardheaded perfectionist who doesn’t let anyone get close to him. That is until Unity walks thru his door. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story.

    I really liked Unity and her lush unexpectedness. In reality, she would have been a mistress. In fiction, she gets to write her own HEA. Unity is a woman of color, smart and confident. Julian, for someone who host illicit parties, is way more on the starchy side and his character had to be to make their unlikely pairing work. Recommend.

    Two of the most unlikely pair come together in this romance. One very stiff controlling Duke and a strong, smart women trying to make something of her self. Love the banter and how she lets him know she only wants his love.

    Julian Newcombe-Ives, Duke of Lambley, is a control freak. He plans and organizes everything until, at least in his eyes, it is perfect. This need springs from a tragic event in his past. He applies the same attitude to his weekly masquerade parties, which are spectacularly successful. Just when Julian decides he may be ready to shuck his rakish reputation and seek a proper wife, a whirlwind named Unity Thorne enters his life. Unity is smart and resourceful, and she has a good head for business. She wants to learn how he has been so successful with his masquerades. Her wish is to open a club with a similar theme in her working and middleclass community. Binging these two together sets the stage for a marvelous romp that sets the staid duke on his ear. Lord of the Masquerade is a fast-paced, entertaining, and delightfully funny story. In short, another winner for Erica Ridley. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
