A REESE'S BOOK CLUB PICK

INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

“Are you ready for the roller coaster ride that is The Club? . . . A beautifully written, densely plotted murder mystery that takes place at a private club off the coast of England. Read about a luxurious, celeb-only island during a weekend of partying and ultimately murder.” —Reese Witherspoon (Reese’s Book Club March ’22 Pick)

From the author of People Like Her comes a smart and sinister murder mystery set in the secretive world of exclusive celebrity clubs.

Everyone's Dying to Join . . .

The Home Group is a glamorous collection of celebrity members' clubs dotted across the globe, where the rich and famous can party hard and then crash out in its five-star suites, far from the prying eyes of fans and the media.

The most spectacular of all is Island Home—a closely-guarded, ultraluxurious resort, just off the English coast—and its three-day launch party is easily the most coveted A-list invite of the decade.

But behind the scenes, tensions are at breaking point: the ambitious and expensive project has pushed the Home Group's CEO and his long-suffering team to their absolute limits. All of them have something to hide—and that's before the beautiful people with their own ugly secrets even set foot on the island.

As tempers fray and behavior worsens, as things get more sinister by the hour and the body count piles up, some of Island Home’s members will begin to wish they’d never made the guest list.

Because at this club, if your name’s on the list, you’re not getting out.

Took me a while to finish. A little far-fetched, yet some interesting sub plots at the end.
  • Ok

This book was ok, but there were a couple of things that made it difficult to read. Let me start with what I liked. First of all, the premise of the book was great. I love the idea of all these exclusive clubs, each one with its own theme, that only the most elite people can be a part of, elite people with dirty secrets. Throw in some murders and a few fun twists, and you have an exciting story! The idea of it was good, the characters were interesting, and there was at least somewhat of a resolution at the end (even if you don’t get to see it all play out, at least you know what happened). I had two main issues, though. First of all, the descriptions of settings were unnecessarily long, to the point that I just started to skim over those parts. I can understand trying to paint a picture and establish the setting. But reading paragraph after paragraph of what columns and wallpaper and roads looked like really weighed down the story. I was reading for the actual plot, not for the architecture represented in these fictional buildings…. My second issue was that there is hardly any dialogue at all in this whole book. You will see very few quotation marks. It’s like the authors (there are two, a husband and wife writing under a pseudonym) are just talking to you. Instead of dialogue, they just tell you what someone did or thought or felt. Like, for example….instead of writing, “‘You don’t understand,’ said John. ‘Let me explain it to you,’” they would say something like, “John told him that he didn’t understand and offered to explain it to him.” It’s hard to just read a book full of description with very little interaction. If you combine that with all of the wordy explanations of buildings and grounds and the like, it made what could have been a very riveting story into a bit of a slow one. I had to mine for the action I picked it up for amongst all the other stuff that was much less interesting. Great idea, just really needed some dialogue to break it up.

I haven’t finished a book in 3 months because of this. I kept trying to finish, but I’m doing it to myself any longer. Can’t keep up with the characters and could care less about the decorations and designers of “Home”. Save yourself.

The Club started off great but then went into predictable territory. It’s a quick easy read and forgettable.
