Description

"Joanna Shupe is the queen of historical bad boys!" — Julia Quinn

By beloved USA Today bestselling author Joanna Shupe, the third installment in the Fifth Avenue Rebels series about an arranged engagement destined for disaster.

A hard-hearted tycoon.

A romantic dreamer.

An engagement set up to fail.

The charismatic and vivacious Katherine Delafield should be married by now. Her father arranged an engagement to the much sought-after tycoon Preston Clarke ages ago. The only problem is Preston refuses to acknowledge it. But this isn’t going to stop Katherine from living life to the fullest as she ditches all silly notions of love and marriage and sets out to sample all the excitement New York City has to offer . . . the more scandalous the better. Because no matter what happens, she and Preston will never marry.

After his family nearly lost everything, Preston is done letting his late father ruin his life—including choosing his bride. But when a mysterious lover at a masquerade turns out to be his would-be fiancée, Preston's resolve begins to crumble. He hadn't expected Katherine to be so charming. Or beautiful. Or passionate. And seeing her out on the town with other men is driving him crazy.

What happens when the wrong bride turns out to be the right woman after all?

What can I say… Joanna Shupe further solidifies her one of my top 5 authors. Preston and Katherine were both wonderful characters. The beginnings of their “betrothal” and/or relationship were unique. I enjoyed the ambition both characters had for their passions (Kat with her art museum and taste for art and Preston for his vision in building the businesses and skyscrapers of NYC) and that they became a powerhouse after getting together. The remerging of Kat’s dad company and Preston’s company was awesome bc it allowed both men to spend more time with their families and reconnect an old business where they were originally partners. I loved how they met and that steering their pet names for each other - Preston was “my King” and Kat was “my reinette” or “mon chaton”. Joanna Shupe does a great job at creating characters with just enough tension and loads of chemistry. She can write sex scenes that are so descriptive and perfect pairings with the couples. I can’t wait for The Duke Gets Even with Nellie and Andrew (Duke of Lockwood)‘s story. They both deserved their happy endings after all they’ve been through in the previous 3 books.

The book was good until the halfway point. The whole thing fell apart. It seemed at the middle point the direction was lost or sometime else with ADHD finished the book. It is sad the start was good. Even if it was written as a modern twist to a historical Scottish romance it worked for awhile.

4-4.5 Stars!! I really enjoyed this book. The main characters were Katherine and Preston and this is book 3 in ‘The Fifth Avenue Rebels’ series and can be read as a standalone. I loved the HEA ending and how Katherine was a strong woman that didn’t let Preston walk all over her with no pushback. The only thing I had issue with is that Katherine and Preston’s fathers owned a company together and they were betrothed, but they had never met? I found that hard to believe. Other than that, I loved the book, especially the ‘sexy times’ scenes (is it hot in here?). I’d 100% recommend this book. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Nellie seems like she has some heavy baggage! *I received this at no charge & I voluntarily left this review.*
