Description

AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

"Wildly entertaining."-The New York Times

"Ingenious."-The Washington Post

New York Times bestselling author Grady Hendrix takes on the haunted house in a thrilling new novel that explores the way your past—and your family—can haunt you like nothing else.

When Louise finds out her parents have died, she dreads going home. She doesn’t want to leave her daughter with her ex and fly to Charleston. She doesn’t want to deal with her family home, stuffed to the rafters with the remnants of her father’s academic career and her mother’s lifelong obsession with puppets and dolls. She doesn’t want to learn how to live without the two people who knew and loved her best in the world.

Most of all, she doesn’t want to deal with her brother, Mark, who never left their hometown, gets fired from one job after another, and resents her success. Unfortunately, she’ll need his help to get the house ready for sale because it’ll take more than some new paint on the walls and clearing out a lifetime of memories to get this place on the market.

But some houses don’t want to be sold, and their home has other plans for both of them…

Like his novels The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires and The Final Girl Support Group, How to Sell a Haunted House is classic Hendrix: equal parts heartfelt and terrifying—a gripping new read from “the horror master” (USA Today).

  • Frustrating

This book was… frustrating. Like almost all books over 400 pages, it was too long. Maybe by 50 pages. I really didn’t love the middle, where the story takes a sort of odd turn and where it seems the book could have just ended. The (real) ending slightly won me back, and I’d recommend to horror fans.

Do not waste your time or money. I returned it without completing it. Seriously a nonsense plot, was looking forward to it as I spent 30 years in Real Estate. Nothing to do with anything but puppets and a lying family.

I enjoyed this book, I found parts to be scary and some parts were very funny too. I’m definitely afraid of dolls now and I don’t want to be no where near them! Pupkin will be living in side my head rent free for a while too! Lol smh

I stayed till end but book dragged. Grady is a great writer and story was fun but i thought it was over around page 400. It had another 100 pages! Felt like multiple endings could have been combined

I really liked Grady Hendrix’s How to sell a haunted house. This is the second book that I read by the author. The themes of grief , horror and family weaved together into a haunting tale. I will admit that I had to take a break before I finished it. The puppet was a bit scarier than I imagined but that is a testament to Hendrix’s writing. Can’t wait to read his next book.
  • Crazy and at times I wanted to laugh at the ridiculousness but is also REALLY good

This book is so ridiculous I often felt on the verge of laughing but the characters are well written and even though I found the subject to be so ridiculous it also had a very real aspect to it. The humanity and complex emotions/relationships were woven into a theatric and insane story that made the whole book work. And, it worked well. A lot happened and just when it started to feel like it would become too much, it didn’t. I didn’t expect to feel sad. I didn’t expect to feel happy or concerned. I didn’t expect to care. As crazy as I feel writing this, I am. I don’t even care for horror books and I’m shocked to rate this book at 5 out of 5. It’s really, really good.
