Preston & Child continue their #1 bestselling series featuring FBI Special Agent Pendergast and Constance Greene, as they cross paths with New York’s deadliest serial killer: Pendergast’s own ancestor…and now his greatest foe.

Astoundingly, Constance has found a way back to the place of her origins, New York City in the late 1800s, leaping at the chance, although it means leaving the present forever.

Constance sets off on a quest to prevent the events that lead to the deaths of her sister and brother. But along the road to redemption, Manhattan’s most infamous serial killer, Dr. Enoch Leng, lies in wait, ready to strike at the slightest provocation.

Meanwhile, in contemporary New York, Pendergast feverishly searches for a way to reunite with Constance—but will he discover a way back to her before it’s too late?

  • Unethical

    By AZ Reader in PHX
Author is unethical and money grubbing. I have zero issue reading a book series, just tell before I buy the book. If you have to apologize at the end of the book, you’ve done something wrong. Sorry I took $20 out of your wallet, I wanted it more than you. Hopefully by the time the next book comes out, I’ll have forgotten about this book.
  • Disappointing is putting it mildly!

What a huge DISAPPOINTMENT! Boring with a capital B!! I wish I had never wasted my time on this. And to top it off the story had no conclusion and the ending will be revealed in the next book! This was a waste of my time and money. If I decide to read the next book I’ll be getting it from my local library. Did the editor even bother to read the book?

The authors already foreshadow that this is the end of the series, but the dangling end is a very poor excuse. They should've withheld publication of this title and finished writing the closure before publishing. The Cabinet of Dr. Leng implies resolution of the many plots of the series, but the authors seem to just want to milk another book. Again, disappointing....
  • Their best in years!

One of my favorite authors and this time more exceptional than most.

How could you, in good faith, as (formerly) highly reputable authors, not divulge, in advance, the incomplete status of this book to your trusting readers who have probably, like myself, read all of your books—up until this one? Shame on you!
  • At Their Best

I sooo look forward to reading these books. This did not disappoint!! I don’t mind the cliff hanger. That just lets me know there will be another. This book is outstanding! I have found that authors with book series start to water down the main character and you don’t even recognize who they are over the years. This is not the case with this series and I LOVE IT! Pendergast is just as quirky and intelligent, as he is in the very first book of his series.
  • Great story!!

Oh my gosh I loved this book. I felt like I was in the storyline with vivid characters and situations. I know it’s fantastical and out of reach but, it was an enjoyable fast paced read. Preston and Child better be writing at a furious pace to get the rest of the story to us!!
  • Only 1/2 book

Only got about 1/2 the book. What’s the story?
  • Disappointed

I feel cheated. I paid $14.99 for a book and only received half a book. It just leaves you hanging and you have to buy the next book to find out how the story concludes. I think this will be the last Preston-Child book I will buy. They are just not believable. I liked them much better when Pendergast was chasing serial murderers.
