Description

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Two starcrossed magicians engage in a deadly game of cunning in the spellbinding novel that captured the world's imagination. "Part love story, part fable ... defies both genres and expectations." —The Boston Globe

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway: a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them both, this is a game in which only one can be left standing. Despite the high stakes, Celia and Marco soon tumble headfirst into love, setting off a domino effect of dangerous consequences, and leaving the lives of everyone, from the performers to the patrons, hanging in the balance.

I loved this story! I bought this at an airport several years ago to read during the flight and ended up using most of my vacation to read it. I just couldn’t put it down and have re-read it many times since. It’s a really fun romance.
  • It was okay

The book was okay. It was lengthy and a bit anti climactic. As a movie I think it would do well but the book felt long and drawn out
  • Saturated with detail

The descriptions of environments in this book are highly detailed. The core plot or story cannot always be found and is eclipsed by the settings until the very end.
  • Intriguing

I don’t usually leave written reviews, but for this book I must. I am an avid reader of all kinds of books from fantasy to horror to non fiction to love stories and everything in between, and this book easily resides in my top five. It is a beautifully written book that transports you to a place that is new and wonderful. I highly recommend you read this book. You won’t be sorry.

This book is, in my opinion, the literary equivalent of red wine and succulent berries wrapped in smooth dark chocolate. The writing eloquently evokes all the reader’s sensory responses, so you feel like you are actually experiencing the tastes, smells, textures, and sounds as well as the visions of all that is described in the narrative. One of my all-time favorite comfort reads. I’d give it 10 stars if I could.

The Night Circus is so superbly and uniquely written that you feel as if you’ve gorged yourself on luxurious universes and are still digesting. Her characters are unusual and human (even if they aren’t) and pry deep inside of our secret thoughts, desires and hopes. Absolutely exceptional.
