Description

The story of her feisty protagonist Jo in this final novel chronicling the adventures and misadventures of the March family. Entertaining, surprising, and overall a joy to read, Jo's Boys is nevertheless shaded by a bittersweet tone, for with it Alcott brought her wonderful series to an end.

I have made it to middle age without ever reading this tale but found it during a time of political divide and social unrest. I found the story timeless and as pertinent today as ever. I was soothed by the motherly love of Jo and found the moral guidance much needed in these troubling times. I was not bothered by the piety and, as a feminist, was impressed by the messaging that women are more than just subordinates to men. I actually enjoyed Little Men and Jo’s Boys more than Little Women, which has received so much attention. I highly recommend the full trilogy.
