Overall, the writing was good, the story was just too short for there to be any real tension. Also, the plot wasn't very believable - spoiler alert - Sage and Dawson meet five years ago, have a few month romance where he never mentions that he's married. Wife walks in and points shotgun. Sage runs away. Five years later Dawson arrives in her small town, with a daughter, says he's moving there. She's mad at first, so he leaves her alone and then Sage works it out that in her head that she loves Dawson and suddenly they are talking marriage. Huh, that's packaged pretty neat. Boring.

The beginning of the story was good, but then the way it ended was rather abrupt. It needed to build to the end.

Review provided courtesy of Romance Junkies Readers will be whisked away to the COPPER MOUNTAIN RODEO in C.J. Carmichael’s dazzling novella PROMISE ME, COWBOY, where they will meet Sage and Dawson, who had a torrid love affair five years ago. However, things got ugly when Sage discovered that Dawson was secretly married. Now Dawson has reappeared in Sage’s life and it looks like he is there to stay. Will Sage be able to forgive Dawson for his past betrayal? It is rumored that there are no secrets in a small town, but Sage Carrigan has managed to keep two undisclosed confessions to herself. Dawson O’Dell is one of them. Five years ago Sage met Dawson on the rodeo circuit and fell in love with him, but to her horror she was awakened one morning in Dawson’s bed by a women wielding a shotgun, claiming to be Dawson’s wife. Thank goodness, she escaped unscathed. Sage has been living a quiet and peaceful life in Marietta, Montana, where she owns a chocolate shop. When Dawson appears in her store one day wanting to make amends, Sage isn’t at all happy to see him. Dawson would like a chance to explain what went wrong five years ago, but Sage isn’t eager to hear his explanation, yet she realizes that Dawson can still make her heart go pitter-patter. When Dawson decides to settle down in Marietta with his daughter, he and Sage keep running into one another. Dawson would like nothing more than to make Sage a permanent part of his life as well, but it is going to take a lot of convincing on his part for Sage to find forgiveness in her heart. Does this couple stand a chance at happily- ever-after? It is easy to empathize with Sage as she goes through a full spectrum of emotions when she sees Dawson in her chocolate shop. Forgiveness doesn’t come easy for her, and she makes Dawson work hard to prove that he is worthy of her attention. I enjoyed meeting all of Sage’s sisters and I hope to see more of them in future writings. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like Dawson at first, but after he gives Sage an explanation of why he hid his marriage from her, I decided he wasn’t a bad guy. I loved the way that Dawson interacted with his mother and daughter and the way that he was so willing to raise his daughter on his own. Promise Me, Cowboy is a great addition to the COPPER MOUNTAIN RODEO series. I loved visiting with characters from the previous novellas and I can’t wait to meet some new ones in upcoming stories. C.J. Carmicheal has done an outstanding job of creating characters that you can relate to and fall in love with. I highly recommend that you download this amazing tale today!

Promise Me, Cowboy by CJ Carmichael is a wonderful addition to the previous Mountainborn Books novellas. It is a fun, fast read, and a wonderful story of fate, choices made and the consequences that come with them. And as a bonus, this book incorporates the characters from Tempt Me, Cowboy and Marry Me, Cowboy and wraps all the stories neatly together. This was my favorite of the 3 novellas to date. I would highly recommend all of these books.

I really enjoyed this story. It was on the sweeter side of the romance continuum, a little less steamy than the prior novellas in the Copper Mountain Rodeo series, but still very good. What I loved most about this story was that it tied in to the first two installments really well. It can be read as a standalone like the other installments; however, it had returning characters that I enjoyed seeing again and gave the series more of a unified feel than the previous two books. Additionally, it introduced some new interesting characters I hope we see in future installments. Overall, I am really enjoying this entire series.

Sage Carrigan stopped competing as a barrel-racer for two reasons. One was a serious leg injury and the other was a broken heart. She returned to Marietta, Montana and became a chocolatier. No one knows that she fell in love with a married man. Now Dawson O'Dell (the man in question) is in town with his five year old daughter, Savannah. He's the new deputy. He plans to stay and to make Sage his wife. Will they be able to find love after so much hurt? CJ Carmichael always delivers a wonderful romantic story. Sage and Dawson are all too human. They have problems, heartbreak and insecurities just like we do. Savannah is a darling child who has grown up too fast and worships her father. The more I learn about Marietta and her people the more I want to know. This novella is easily read in one sitting. Don't miss it!

Sage has her life in order--sisters who love her, a great chocolate shop, a curmudgeonly father--but lacks love in her life. As she rides by her dream house, her life turns upside down. Dawson, the cowboy she loved until she found out about his wife at the wrong end of gun while "caught in the act", came to town with the rodeo. He's staying! And buying the house of her dreams. She thought he'd leave with the rodeo. A life she left behind with a broken heart and an injury. Dawson, finally ridding himself of his past, is hoping to rekindle the love of the one woman he ever regretted losing. A single father, he's leaving the rodeo circuit to start life anew as a deputy in Sage's hometown. And hoping, that maybe she'll be the one to help him start over. But, he has a lot to overcome. This time, he's making promises he intends to keep. But will Sage's heart open and learn to trust, and love him again? He'll have to show her one step at a time. I loved the story trope and the writing. This story delivers and is a great addition to the Montana Born series set in the fictional town of Marietta, Montana that interweaves the lives of several families through the eyes of several authors.

I loved all the conflicting emotions Sage went through throughout the story trying to cut her connection to one hot cowboy :) If there was one thing I did not like it was that this is a novella, I would have definitely loved reading more about these two. A great, quick afternoon read about forgiveness and following your heart :) Thank you CJ Carmichael!!

PROMISE ME, COWBOY (Copper Mountain Rodeo book 3) was amazing! I did not want the book to end. Sage and Dawson were such likable characters and their story is easy to relate to. Their tug-of-wars of emotions, expectations and desires made the book even more enjoyable. I sure hope that there is more to their story in the future from CJ Carmichael.
