Description

Two years ago, Emily Burnham, had an epiphany about the shallowness of her life. And she made it her mission to become a different person…a better woman. Out from under the controlling thumb of her mother, Emily is tasting the real world for the first time. And she likes it.

Nixon Caldwell has served his time in the Marine Corps, surviving two brutal tours in Afghanistan. He is back home, surrounded by what he likes best…isolation. It's certainly the easiest way to avoid confrontation of the consuming guilt that is weighing him down.

When an accident brings Emily and Nix together, he soon learns he is not the master of his own fate. Struggling with his own pain, Nix tries to guard himself against Emily’s charms. He wants her in his bed, but he doesn’t want her in his heart.

Having grabbed life by the horns, Emily wants it all. But is she willing to accept just the small part of himself that Nix is offering? Or can she reach the part of his soul that he has deemed to be Off Limits?

The plot was great. But For my personal taste, this book told too much and showed too little. It definitely has potential. I would definitely read it again if the author polishes it up. The characters were a little flat. It was vague. Almost as if I was reading a diary. As a reader I like to watch scenes unfold, not be told what happened. I liked how we get nix and Emily’s point of view. But the repetition of Emily talking about the same event nix was, was getting old. Nix’s character evolution wasn’t drastically shown which disappointed me. I guess I just wanted more.

I love this sweet, complex, and sexy romance. Nix and Emily evolve as people and grow closer before being ripped apart by things neither clearly understand. Love brings them back together! Enjoy this well written story as much as I have.

Excellent character build. Felt like I could meet them on the street and know immediately who they were. It spelled out what is so hard for a lot of people who have never served to understand. You can not train young men and women to serve in the armed forces and to endure, to see and experience what so many do and then think they can return the same. They can not and do not! This story touched my h heart in so many ways and was so well written. Great read and looking forward to more books from this author.

This book currently has only good reviews so of course iTunes didn't post my previous negative review 😡 Reasons this book sucked: - I didn't feel the 'chemistry' between the characters - Nix is in awe of Emily when she stared down a would be attacker (instead of fighting back) 😠 - Nix turns from surly guy to mushy, schmaltzy sap; it's a major deviation from his personality - Emily is young & she acts its. She digs through Nix's things & then seems surprised that he's so mad at her. - there's not enough development. He's got ptsd from military deployment & that basically makes up his entire personality. Emily is a trust fund baby who realizes her the error of her shallow ways; this makes her a saint 🙄 - everything Emily does is seemingly amazing. Behaving like a normal person makes her super special to the people around her. This is obnoxious & makes me like her even less

Love the honesty of how insensitive Nix can be AND how the story alternates from the perspectives of both Emily and Nix!
  • Great story, interesting characters

I am a big fan of this author having read several of her previous books. I really love the way she is capable of writing emotions and making us come to know, feel and be so invested in her characters. This is the second book in this series and I can't wait to start the third one as soon as I finish this review! Highly recommend.

Sawyer Bennett is my new favorite author! Her books are gritty and real. Off Limits shows that love can heal even the deepest of wounds.
