Description

From USA Today bestselling author Kelly Rey comes a laugh-out-loud mystery that is so funny it should be a crime…
Jamie Winter loathes her job as a secretary in the sleaziest law firm in New Jersey. Trouble is, someone else loathes the whole firm—enough to kill one of the partners, the two-timing, eleven-fingered king of lowbrow television commercial spots, Dougie Digits. Now, Jamie is being strong-armed into investigating by Dougie’s frosty widow, Hilary. The suspect list is long, including the firm’s bookish paralegal, embezzling bookkeeper, ambitious associate, and resentful senior partners. Add to that list a mélange of oddball clients with grudges of their own, and Jamie has her work cut out for her. With assists from her studly landlord and husband-hungry sister, Jamie uncovers enough dirt on her coworkers to launch a tabloid in her hunt to find the killer...before he or she strikes again!

I couldn’t finish this book because it’s too boring with all the names and explanations.

LuvsKU "I received this book from eBook Discovery in exchange for an honest review." I finished reading this light hearted murder/mystery/romance and was totally surprised by the end of the story. It was a little slow going in places, but made up for it with the comical escapades of Jamie's sister trying to find a preferably blonde male to marry and take care of her.

Cute, light mystery with characters you like to love or hate. Gutsy heroine in all areas except romance. Three minor errors: missing "...button ON the remote..." and spaces between a couple of words.

Jamie should have known that the day was not going to get any better when the first client at the law firm of Parker, Dennis, and Heath was waving a gun and she seemed the only one really concerned about it. Her fellow legal secretary Missy Clark was more than happy to let the disagreeable, ambulance-chasing partner Douglas J. Heath – better known as Dougie the Digits for his extra finger and extra grabby hands – walk into a hopefully lethal scenario. Unfortunately, Dougie survives that encounter only to fall to one of his ubiquitous protein shakes that someone in House has sprinkled in a little extra. While Jamie hasn’t exactly found her purpose in life and has mostly drifted into her living situation, she would prefer to survive working in the law firm even as she is talked into Dougie’s bulldozer of a widow into investigating which of his many mistresses may have finally stopped his lothario ways. On top of toiling at a job that is sucking the life out of her, Jamie also has a grandbaby-happy mother and an equally wedding-and-baby obsessed sister who both combine to add to the chaos. The fun of this debut mystery comes in how it subverts so many clichés and surprises readers with its twists and plays on characters. While the culprit may ultimately not be too surprising to most readers, the humor and development of Jamie’s character keep the novel fresh and exciting. The greatest satisfaction is derived from watching Jamie slowly grow into her self as she develops a backbone and cements a future for herself. This is a very funny new mystery and a welcome entry into humorous mysteries with a side helping of romance.

I received an ARC eBook in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book I have read by Kelly Rey and it most certainly will not be my last! This is the first book in what promises to be a fun and exciting mystery series. I loved Jamie Winters and the crazy cast of characters in her world especially her sexy landlord Curt and her so-desperate-for-marriage sister Sherri! This book keeps you guessing as you laugh out loud at some of the situations Jamie finds herself in while trying to deduce who murdered her boss. I was as surprised as Jamie was at who the killer turned out to be. I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a cozy, fun mystery!
