Description

Three women are mentioned in the Bible Book of Revelation. The first is introduced in the letter Apostle John wrote to the church at Thyatira while he was exiled on the Island of Patmos. Patmos is just off the Turkish coast, near Ephesus. His words, from Christ, are described in Chapter 2, Verses 20-24. This is the full description of that Jezebel:

"Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds." Then in Verse 23, he writes the warning:

"And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts; and I will give unto every one you according to your works." Verse 24 concludes with encouragement and hope to avoid this terrible danger:

"But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden."

Now, on the surface and without further deep research this sounds like an actual human form woman named Jezebel causing trouble in Thyatira by claiming to be a prophetess. Heretofore, no one has been able to find a definition or description of this woman biblically or historically. If she did exist as an actual woman she left no trace of herself. But, we know someone claiming to be a prophet, and encouraging others to commit fornication and to eat things sacrificed to idols. Reading only these few verses, one would never be able to interpret who this woman, what this metaphor, means. Since she is not a real 'woman' we must search for a common metaphor to determine who Jezebel really is. And, with more research that information is there within the Words of Revelation.

God bless America.
