Description

**INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER**

In the vein of Mary Beth Keane’s Ask Again, Yes and Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney's The Nest,
Tracey Lange’s We Are the Brennans explores the staying power of shame—and the redemptive power of love—in an Irish Catholic family torn apart by secrets.

When twenty-nine-year-old Sunday Brennan wakes up in a Los Angeles hospital, bruised and battered after a drunk driving accident she caused, she swallows her pride and goes home to her family in New York. But it’s not easy. She deserted them all—and her high school sweetheart—five years before with little explanation, and they've got questions.

Sunday is determined to rebuild her life back on the east coast, even if it does mean tiptoeing around resentful brothers and an ex-fiancé. The longer she stays, however, the more she realizes they need her just as much as she needs them. When a dangerous man from her past brings her family’s pub business to the brink of financial ruin, the only way to protect them is to upend all their secrets—secrets that have damaged the family for generations and will threaten everything they know about their lives. In the aftermath, the Brennan family is forced to confront painful mistakes—and ultimately find a way forward, together.

The Brennan’s are a collection of interesting characters with strong family ties. I enjoyed their story, particularly how it unfolded from each character’s different viewpoint. An easy, entertaining read.

Please tell me you are writing a new book (a continuation) about The Brennans. Each character was so unique yet so intricately enmeshed with the others.

“What I’m saying is, if you can be happy, do it. If you know what you want in life, don’t wait for someone else to give it to you. Go after it, and don’t let anything stand in the way.” We Are The Brennans explores the staying power of shame-and the redemptive power of love-in an Irish Catholic family torn apart by secrets. Some secrets you keep 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 your family. Some secrets you keep 𝒇𝒐𝒓 your family. Wow do I adore this family! Don’t you just love it when a book is so good that you feel as if you 𝕜ꪀꪮ᭙ the characters? Almost as if you’ve had your hands pressed to the windows of their lives, watching with rapt fascination as they fight and make up and love each other. This family is real and raw and broken, but underneath all of that there is loyalty and love and forgiveness. Oooh something fresh and unique guys. So..there are multiple POV. Buuuut the last spoken line of each chapter starts up the first line of the next, but from the different characters perspective. A very unique writing style and I 👏🏻 am 👏🏻 here 👏🏻 for 👏🏻 it . This was especially noticeable in the audio version as the narrator did a great job of giving each unique character their own tone/emotion/angst, so you could really pick up on the transition. Just awesome! I devoured We Are The Brennans and could not wait to get back to the story whenever I had to a step away. If you are looking for a book hangover book, look no further. Thank you to Celadon Books and the author for the advanced copy.

I read this in a single sitting and truly already miss the Brennan family. And to think this is a debut. Amazing. Lange’s writing makes you feel like you are sitting in the kitchen with the family or on a bar stool at the family owned pub. Agree with the NYTimes review that this is a wonderful read.
  • Rich Irish Family Drama

This beautifully written book about a dysfunctional Irish family brings back memories of my own clan, with its secrets, shame, alcohol abuse, and relationship struggles, all underpinned by love. I adored the different characters, starting with Sunday Brennan, who wakes up in an L.A. hospital after a drunk driving accident she caused, and returns home, ashamed, to her family in NY. Her appearance forces the revelation of long-held family secrets, which cascade through the clan. I especially loved how each chapter is told from a different POV, adding depth and richness to the tale, which made me cringe, gasp, laugh, cry, and page madly through to the compelling end. Perfect for anyone with Irish blood and readers who love messy family dramas. Thanks to author Tracey Lange and @Celadon Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
