Description

Greatly revised and expanded, with a new afterword, this update to Martin Jacques’s global bestseller is an essential guide to understanding a world increasingly shaped by Chinese power
Soon, China will rule the world. But in doing so, it will not become more Western.

Since the first publication of When China Rules the World, the landscape of world power has shifted dramatically. In the three years since the first edition was published, When China Rules the World has proved to be a remarkably prescient book, transforming the nature of the debate on China.

Now, in this greatly expanded and fully updated edition, boasting nearly 300 pages of new material, and backed up by the latest statistical data, Martin Jacques renews his assault on conventional thinking about China’s ascendancy, showing how its impact will be as much political and cultural as economic, changing the world as we know it.

First published in 2009 to widespread critical acclaim - and controversy - When China Rules the World: The End of the Western World and the Birth of a New Global Order has sold a quarter of a million copies, been translated into eleven languages, nominated for two major literary awards, and is the subject of an immensely popular TED talk.

A wealth of Sinocenteric information. With well drawn historical arguments very well researched. While it lacks in the same detail with regard to speculation into the future, assumptions are based more on the numbers than on the complexities of the financial conditions of the other 75% of the world. Very important observations regarding superiority, racism and global migration and its connection to the Millennia old civilization. But even here, the balance of the argument weighs heavily on the past rather than where the global financial system is really heading as a result. Missing is a better discussion of the interconnectedness of the West's Debt and China's relation to it not just the simple assumption that China's size and history and the current financial crisis gets China to the Next civilization state empire. You will take issue with this book but you will also learn greatly from it.

Despite all the numbers , facts and figures this was a riveting account of Chinese history, humiliation and a vision of the future successful dynasty. Although only living there for 2 years , I was fascinated, captivated and convinced that what Martin has described here in this book is absolutely inevitable. A very fair and impartial account , but the outcome is , inevitable. Get your children into Mandarin classes and ensure they have a job in the future.

The book goes into too much detail. The book is biased towards the assumption that China will continue it's economic growth and comes to conclusions that may not occur if China stumbles, which it may. State run capitalism is not proven and has a lot of flaws built into it.

The author not only grasped the essence of one being a Chinese but the great big picture of its civilization. I tried very hard to disagree, but in most part, I failed. By learning the real nature of the people and it's society, one could better deal with the inner working and mentality of its leaders.
