Description

From Darren Shan, the Master of Horror, comes the first book in the Zom-B series that will have you on the edge of your seat and questioning what it means to be a human or a monster.

When news reports start appearing of a zombie outbreak in Ireland, B's racist father thinks it's a joke-- but even if it isn't, he figures, it's ok to lose a few Irish.

B doesn't fully buy into Dad's racism, but figures it's easier to go along with it than to risk the fights and abuse that will surely follow sticking up for Muslims, blacks, or immigrants. And when dodging his fists doesn't work, B doesn't hesitate to take the piss out of kids at school with a few slaps or cruel remarks.

That is, until zombies attack the school. B is forced on a mad dash through the serpentine corridors of high school, making allegiances with anyone with enough gall to fight off their pursuers.

My favorite series, like ever I love the zoom- b books sooo much. I feel really stupid for not figuring out that B is a girl, especially when the babies call her mummy, but I do like the fact that she is a girl . If you've read the whole series ( up till the latest book) you would know that it would make no sense if B was a boy. So far none of B's friends in the first book are important except for vinyl. If you do not stomach violence very well this series might not be for you but the story line might drive you past that... I love the cliffhanger endings and if you are confused by the end of the book, book to pretty much sums up the first book in a chapter. I would recommend this book to any of my friends, pretty much anyone in the street too.

Far from being a children's book, in my opinion. However, the important characters are well defined for the reader who is interested in knowing who they are reading about while wanting to move on. Similar to Shan's previous series, this first book of its series lacks action and sticks to introducing the characters and the situation until late in this part. Do not pay any attention to the poor reviews about how this book is boring-- if you know Darren Shan's previous work, then you should have a good idea of how this series' general plot will be and that the first book is about introduction rather than instant-action.

Love Darren Shan's books, his stories get more and more macabre and detailed. Although I really can't grasp how this is considered "Children's Fiction" since the first couple of sentences is about a woman gorging out her husbands head.

It is obvious why no more classics are written these days with this single book. It could have been written as a 10 year old and I wouldn't have seen the difference. Plot wise it still sucked. Just a bunch of kids being ghetto and what not. Except for a brief prologue, we don't see a zombie until 75% through. The author spends most if the book failing at characterizing the main character, mostly just how ghetto he is. Trust me I see enough ghetto in real life, I don't need to read about it. To conclude, this book is a waste for even the most die hard zombie apocalypse fan, skip it. Btw I'm a teenager, not a random college professor. That shows you how bad it is.

OMG Darren Shan has succeeded in writing a book that I plowed through in three hours. Can't wait to get my hands on the others!
