Description

Erin Kellison's Indulgence World is on fire with heart-stopping romance, perilous adventure, and court intrigue. And Terah and Adom are right in the middle of it all... Daughter of the Messenger god, Terah Crane is tasked with delivering an urgent warning to the god of Passion and Fury. But instead, she chooses to accompany his enigmatic son Adomanei on a mission that will decide if they will be players or pawns in the game of the world. They alone know that one of the gods is a traitor, and discovering who it is requires maneuvering among their scheming scions. Together, they must discern ally from enemy while defending against attacks from the shadows. Battle-weary Adom trusts only one person, and he's keeping her close. It would help if Terah would acknowledge their magnetic attraction and agree to a formal courtship. But Terah is wary of love and uncertain of a future with the arrogant prince, especially when their wills collide. Escalating violence forces them to make a desperate choice, but they've fought side by side before and prevailed. This time, however, Terah and Adom find that mixing passion and politics is dangerous, but defying the gods is deadly.

In this third novel of Erin Kellison's Indulgence series, as the war amongst the gods looms closer, the various non-divine factions (humans, lenolae) advance their own agendas while the gods, through their chosen offspring - their Hoods - defend their kingdoms, attempt to form alliances, and undermine their enemies. It's a dizzying merry-go-round of plots, betrayals, political machination, bloody conflicts, narrow escapes and dangerous journeys. (Here is a reminder: this is NOT a stand alone. Read this series in order!) The double treat in this book is watching the MCs come into their own: Tera grows from the powerless victim of gods and circumstance to a true Hood, a woman of power, decisive action, and commitment. Hood Adomenei reveals Adom, the man of independent thought and action rather than the mindlessly obedient tool of his god. The love between Terah and Adom is the power behind their metamorphosis, that irrevocable change which obliterates the status quo ante, alters landscapes, tests alliances, and challenges the will of the gods themselves. Warning: murder and mayhem, slavery, kidnapping, hostage-taking, drug addiction, and all the abuses of power that entitled gods are accustomed to dish out. This is excellent fantasy for die-hard adult fans. Thus concludes my voluntary ARC review
