Description

SOME MISTAKES ARE DEADLY.

FBI Agent Fin McLaughlin has a lot of sins to make up for—sins that almost destroyed his career and almost ended his life six years earlier. Now in St. Louis to take the prestigious position as assistant director of the PAVAD Division, Fin is determined to achieve his new goals—and not repeat past mistakes.

Those mistakes nearly got a woman he cared about killed. Fin had never forgiven himself for that mistake.

St. Louis is supposed to be a new beginning for him.

★ UNTIL HE SEES HER AGAIN. ★

FBI Agent Ana Sorin has spent six years recovering from the nightmare explosion she'd shared with her former partner, Fin. Now he's her new boss and every time their paths cross, fire burns between them.

Fin says he's never forgotten her.

★ NOW SHE CAN'T FORGET HIM. ★

But there is an even deadlier connection between their past and the bombing that nearly killed them both.

A killer who isn't anywhere near finished with Fin—or Ana.

Now Fin has to work against the clock, to save Ana and his future—before it's far too late, and Ana pays the price for Fin's sins once again.

As with the others in the series, you can’t put it down! The men and women of PAVAD work night and day to keep people safe while falling in love and risking their very lives.

Starts a bit slow with a “fake it ‘til you make it” vibe in regards to the FBI subject matter. If you can get through the initial Ana ordeal where, after being emotionally abused and practically sexually assaulted by her old partner, she falls in love with her abuser when reunited years later then it’s a decent read. Also the fact that Fin insists on touching her even after realizing he traumatized her and she explicitly tells him she doesn’t like being touched by strange men and asks him not to do it again. There’s continuity issues where the synopsis says the Terrell bombing was six years ago but the book says it was nine, and Dale fluctuates between having six kids and five. It’s also strange that after emphasizing professionalism for the entirety of the book it’s thrown out at the very end against wisdom and without regard for the precedent it sets. I am also disappointed that despite everything female protagonists still can’t escape getting damseled.

Exciting right up to the end. Would have liked a little more twist at the end. Seemed to end abruptly.
