Dark Alpha's Hunger

I love this author’s work. I have read everything that she has written. I am nearly nuts before the next book comes out. She gets better and better in her writing. Just when I think her story line can’t get any better she blows it out of the box.

This book was totally engrossing, once you start don’t plan on putting it down. The author has uncanny ability to make you feel and hear the music that Thea plays. I swear I was swaying to the music in more than one part. Readers feel the fear, frustration, anger, (you name it) of the characters. Eoghan is definitely swoon worthy between his attitude and his quicksilver eyes! The storyline is so different it’s refreshing. Book can be read as a stand-alone (I did, and yes went back and purchased the previous books in the series) but would probably be better if read in order so have a better sense of the other, lesser characters problems. Has its own HEA. Paranormal readers will want to gobble this up. Highly recommend, you won’t be disappointed! Reviewed for NetGalley.

Dark Alpha’s Hunger is book 6 in the Reapers series, which is a spin off of the Dark King’s series. Because this is a novella, I recommend reading the other books in the Reaper’s series before this one. There isn’t much world building and characters are introduced without much backstory assuming you’ve read about them already. Thea was orphaned as a baby and grew up in a children’s home in Ireland.. She find music as her solace and is drawn to a set of stones which are a portal to another realm. One day, she’s playing her violin and a hand suddenly appears from the portal. Eoghan is pulled through with Thea’s help and defeats the beast that followed him. There is a ton that happens in such a short span. Eoghan finally speaks after thousand of years, he becomes a leader of his own reapers, a fae kidnaps Thea, Eoghan, Cael and the new reaper group go to save Thea, Thea figures out who her mother is and she has other family,Thea and Eoghan fall in love, AND we pretty much get confirmation on who Rhi’s King is. It was too much for less than 200 pages. The details Grant is known for in her King series are missing in this book and I didn’t connect with Eoghan and Thea. It’s a good installment, I just wish Grant would turn this series into novels vs. novellas. I received this arc from St. Matin’s Press and NetGalley. This has no influence on my review.

Just when I thought we were getting closer to the end, we get introduced to a bunch of new characters. I have to admit I have no idea where the author is going next, but more is good. I'm enjoying this series. It's unique and has very appealing characters. I also like how this gets intertwined with the Dragon Kings series. It's good to see Eoghan. I like him more now that his role has been expanded. I'm curious how much Thea is going to be able to do now that her identity has been revealed, but the one I'm really looking forward too is Erith. I'm guessing her story will be the last one in the series. I would recommend starting at book 1. There are too many characters to keep up with and an overall storyline that continues in each book. The great thing about this series is that each book is about the size of a larger novella and they sure do pack a punch.
