Hanna, a stylist trying to outrun her past, returns to her home town and is confronted by Hugh, current Sheriff and her former fiancé, about why she broke things off when they were young. As the story progresses their reunion comes with shocking words, secrets bubble out at inopportune times, and if their small town continues to hold onto old fashioned beliefs their relationship may not get fixed in time. E.M. Shue’s Hanna’s Valentine is an amazing second chance romantic suspense read that will have the waterworks flowing. I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.

Hanna & Hugh were high school sweethearts until life got in the way. He went off to boot camp and her mother moved them to Portland, OR. She is back in town and works at a hair salon. Hanna has been hurt and has secrets she is running from. Hugh returned home after his father was killed and is now the sheriff. This has lies, betrayal, danger, abuse, death, loss and so much more. A quick read but definitely a must read. You also get Coal and Kiera updates in this book.

So, this is a short story with a storyline that is very common in romantic fiction. However, E.M. Shue’s vivid character depiction with little surprises throughout keep the story from being overdone and typical. I really enjoyed reading about Hugh and Hanna. I could truly feel their emotions and understood their actions throughout the story. I recommend this book and all of E.M. Shue’s books, she is a fantastic writer.
