Description

She desires to be loved. But that’s the one thing he can’t give her. All Sandy Jodane ever wanted was to belong, to be loved. Instead, she’s become a pawn to be used and discarded by her empire-building politician mother. After turning to stardust to deaden the pain of rejection, she finds the strength to beat her addiction and live life on her own terms. But, just as she makes a clean break, she finds herself on a desolate alien planet, taken into custody by a powerful cyborg determined to break her and get the information he needs. A failed marriage proved to cyborg Quint Stroud that duty and love don’t mix, so he’s dedicated himself to C-Force, fighting for justice in the galaxy. He’s now facing the toughest assignment of his career: protecting the life of a unique intelligent alien species on planet Sajave from a corrupt Earth president who would destroy it. Saving the alien will require help from an insider—the president’s complicit, reprobate daughter. He vows to do whatever it takes to coerce her cooperation. But nothing is as it seems. Quint discovers the gutsy, vulnerable woman needs his protection as much as the alien does, and Sandy suspects Quint’s fierce, almost robotic appearance and manner hide a wounded heart. When they team up in a last-ditch effort to save the alien, they’ll unleash a maelstrom of vengeance that could destroy their future or even their lives. Maelstrom is the exciting, tempestuous final book in the Cyborg Force series.

  • Satisfying Conclusion

“In another life, she would have been perfect for me.” So finally we conclude this ongoing series with Quint and Sandy. Quint was much more mellow and emotionally open than he was in the other books. I don’t know if this was because we got to hear his thoughts or if Sandy just brought something that had previously been missing out in him. Sandy wasn’t surprising. I always knew there was a good person inside her. I’m glad Quint realized this right away. She needed a champion after a lifetime alone. This story was great, the resolution very satisfying and all loose ends were tied up. I’ll admit, though, I felt the entire book was compressed and many events rushed or glossed over. Then I noticed the page count. This book is 100 pages shorter than Gale Force, the longest book in the series. Still, even compressed, the series arc was completed and our main couple got their HEA. They didn’t have as much conflict and angst as the prior couples but I guess Sandy especially has already suffered enough. Even though the series is complete, I’d love to see future C-Force books, perhaps with some of the rookies. I adored Gunner and wouldn’t mind seeing him find someone to love.

Quint Stroud is the C-Force Commander who is tasked with trying to contain the disaster on Sajave. The driving force behind the destruction is President Kathryn Jodane. In a desperate attempt to gather enough evidence against the President and save the planet, they kidnap her daughter Sandy. But it seems the President is one step ahead of them. Can Quint convince Sandy to help them and to betray her mother or is all for naught? An excellent book with lots of twists and turns and a fantastic ending to the series!. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
