Description

Lake Bittersweet is the perfect place for a winter wish to come true... Baking cookies, sledding, building snow forts…these are the things trauma nurse Annika Scarlett should be doing with her nephews as Christmas nears. Instead, she’s in a hospital, where doctors are trying to diagnose her mysterious collapse. This is not what she planned for her holiday season. She should be a little grateful...on one hand, the man’s she’s been crushing on via text came to her rescue and hasn’t left her side. But on the other? The man’s she’s been crushing on via text came to her rescue…and hasn’t left her side. It’s almost enough to make Annika believe in romance, except she’s far too independent for all that. For billionaire and single dad Brent Caldwell, it was love at first sight the minute Annika helped his young son through an ordeal. But does the love-skeptical Annika even believe in such a thing? All he wants for Christmas is for her to recover. Well, maybe a little more than that…or a lot more… Between storms, emergencies, and the ghosts of Christmas past, it’ll take a miracle for his wishes to come true. Good thing it’s that time of year.

The Winter Wish is the companion novella to The Do-Over. Annika is the older sister to Jenna(The Do-over heroine) and has been the take charge, let no one in, strong and unsentimental type all her life. She is a great nurse and works too hard. Brent is a billionaire that owns his own company and works just as hard, he’s a single father raising his son Tyler and going through the motions. He’s been a shell of a person after his wife’s death until meeting Annika. They live in different states and are as alike as an apple and an orange. Brent is back in town and he’s needed by Annika, I’m not giving anything away here but the way Jennifer writes this, it’s amazing and I read through it in less than 6 hours. I always love how I can be transported into Jennifer’s books. She writes such vivid scenes you just feel like you’re right there too. Although this is a novella, you don’t feel like you don’t get enough, you don’t feel like she rushed it. I loved that. I can’t wait to read more. I’ve read all her other books and I feel the same about them all. Give me all the books!

I love how Brent Caldwell recognizes Annika Scarlett as his other half. He may be a billionaire, but he has been going through the motions of life with his young son, Tyler. Brent is smitten at "first sight" of Annika. She takes Brent by surprise while caring for Tyler after their summer boating accident. Annika's cynical side is resigned to not finding a forever love. Brent's careful and cautious way of showing Annika his feelings is incredibly sweet. Brent knows she is not the romantic type and very guarded with her heart. It is a difficult balance and charming to witness him doing it. With a medical emergency and Brent by her side, Annika begins to let her heart feel again. With the laugh out loud text messaging banter between these two, this story restores the heart with understanding and love as Brent and Annika find their way to a happy ending. It is a Christmas wish that can be enjoyed over and over again.

I loved Annika and Brent’s story. They must first meet when his son is brought to the clinic where she works, after a boating fire. Brent is smitten from the start. They start texting each other and grow closer, but will it turn into anything more once they see each other again? Grab your copy and see what happens. I loved that parts of this story took place during The Do-Over, the second chance story about Jenna and Billy. I highly recommend both books and all of the other Lake Bittersweet stories. I received an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
  • A sweet, hot holiday treat

THE WINTER WISH by Jennifer Bernard is a companion novella to THE DO-OVER in her lovely Lake Bittersweet series. The heroine, Annika Scarlett, is the elder sister to Jenna, the heroine of The Do-Over. She and Brent Caldwell meet when she is the nurse present when he and his son need some medical attention after a boating mishap. They exchange contact information, and their friendship builds through texts and the like for months. When Annika’s sudden collapse brings Brent to her side, it gives them the chance and reason to explore taking their relationship to the next level. Jennifer Bernard’s story is both sweet and hot, and I loved seeing the self-contained Annika find she could trust herself to and with the thoughtful Brent. I also loved seeing her and Jenna, and how bravely they both faced their fears. Brent is a truly stand-up guy, and I loved seeing how determined he was to show Annika how carefully he treasured her. A beautiful holiday read!
