Description

THE BORROWED BOYFRIEND
From New York Times Bestselling Author GINNY BAIRD, a heartfelt and hilarious tale about two lost souls finding their way to each other.

Allison Murphy spends a week in March with the same group of girlfriends each year. What started as a college spring break tradition morphed into an annual reunion, ultimately encompassing boyfriends and husbands. Only Allison hasn’t brought along a love interest in years, inspiring the others toward goodwill efforts at fixing her up. Faced with the prospect of yet another beach week mismatched with a virtual stranger, Allison’s roommate Kate suggests a shocking alternative. Allison can “borrow” Kate’s handsome and successful boyfriend for the trip. The trouble is Grady O’Brien stands for everything romantic idealist Allison is against. He’s a ruthless businessman who will stop at nothing to get ahead. What Allison doesn’t understand is just how far Grady is willing to go…

Wine industry entrepreneur Grady O’Brien knows an opportunity when he sees one. Allison Murphy runs a boutique wine label design company, while Grady heads up a firm that buys those sorts of businesses out. When Grady’s girlfriend unexpectedly must attend a conference and their vacation plans are cancelled, she encourages Grady to accompany Allison to the beach instead. Grady agrees to participate in the ruse of playing Allison’s boyfriend with a secret agenda in mind. He hopes to pave the way for acquiring Allison’s Bella Fortuna Wine Designs by winning favor with its pretty owner and her friends. The one thing Grady doesn’t count on losing in the bargain is his heart.

The Borrowed Boyfriend tells the tail of Allison and Grady. I like how Allison had kept in touch with her girlfriends and wished that I had done the same. It is great how they get together, but I too would be like Allison in wanting to avoid the set up with someone I didn't know to ruin my week. I don't know how I would feel about passing off my roommate's boyfriend as my own, but who knows. Both Allison and Grady see the end to a means in agreeing to carry out the plan. Allison sees it as a way to have a "boyfriend" and Grady sees it as a way to get at her business. Neither planned on it going as it did A fun and enjoyable book. I received a copy from the author to read and review.

The Borrowed Boyfriend is such a cute and romantic read in which two totally different people join forces for one week to help one of them out. Allison always spends a week each year with her girlfriends and their significant others. The only problem is she does not have a significant other. Her girlfriends are constantly trying to find her a boyfriend but they just never seem to work out. One day Allison's roommate, Kate, offers to let her boyfriend join Allison as her significant other. Allison doesn't really care for her roommate's boyfriend, Grady. Grady, on the other hand, is seeing this opportunity as a business venture. What lengths do they go to to seem like the loving new couple? Are their hearts prepared for what's gonna happen? Mrs. Baird wrote such a heartfelt tale that is a perfect beach read or perfect for cuddling up with in bed.

Note: I was given a complimentary copy for an honest review. Having read most of this author's works, I can honestly say that she is growing as a writer. This story has great depth, character development, and believable plotline. Allison Murphy is tired of her well meaning friends trying to set her up with a man each year when they meet for a week vacation together. When her roommate, Kate, suggests her boyfriend, Grady, as a stand-in "boyfriend," she's shocked. Who would suggest such a thing and who would actually agree to it? Grady O'Brien can't believe what his girlfriend, Kate, just suggested. A fake boyfriend for a week? However, he figures that he can take advantage of the time with Allison to win her over to his idea of an agreement between his wine company and her wine label company. What neither expected was their reaction to each other. However, what's going to happen when Allison learns of Grady's original plans regarding her company? Will love conquer all or was it all a ruse from the get go? Did I like the story? Yes, I did. I appreciated fully fleshed out characters. I understood Allison and her fears. She had some prejudice and emotional baggage to overcome, but I appreciated her maturity and willingness to grow as a person. I also understood Grady and his point of view. He's a businessman who sees a potentially good business deal and, why not go after it? And, when real emotions got tangled in the mix, I appreciated their mature reaction. They weren't like some hormonal teenager, they actually acted like adults. It was refreshing to read. I also felt like I got to know the secondary characters. They're an eclectic mix and bring to the story a fun exchange. I could envision old college chums reuniting for a week. Finally, beyond the surface story, the author delves into some real issues - such as prejudice in business (is big business all bad?), dealing with past grief from a personal loss, honesty and integrity - both in business and personal life. Romance - basically PG, but there are numerous references to romantic activity. Language - PG / Clean My rating - 5 stars

I found this to be a very well written, sweet romance with an engaging storyline and a cast of characters that I thoroughly enjoyed spending an afternoon with. Ginny Baird's vivid description of the beautiful New England scenery, and a sumptuous waterfront dream home, transported me there standing amidst the characters and taking part in their fun anniversary week of reunion activities. I especially enjoyed the romance between Allison and Grady and the emotional connection between them which, for me, is essential to a memorable reading experience. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

The borrowed boyfriend Allison needed a boyfriend to go with her for a week vacation with several of her friends. I really enjoyed this book, some comical parts. At first Grady was not going to do it but his current girlfriend Kate talked him and Allison into. They really have a interesting time. I really enjoyed the character of Grady, he is so sweet and caring. I received this book in exchange for a honest review.

This romantic comedy is a delightfully fun, yet meaningful story about Allison and Grady, who go on a vacation with three of Allison's college friends and their boyfriends to a Maine beach house, which has been a tradition amongst Allison's girlfriends since they met in college. In previous trips, her friends kept trying to match her up with a date for the week, but they were unsuccessful matches. This time, though, her roommate Kate, from where she lives in Marydale, Maryland, lends Allison her boyfriend for the trip - Kate has a business trip to San Francisco, after all. They don't really know each other, but agree to fake it. I devoured this book with warmth, smiles, and laughter. I highly recommend this heartwarming, fun book. Ginny Baird is a breath of fresh air!
